  This brings to mind what I hadn't thought of in years. In the TV show, Dr. Kildare, the young doc orders a transfusion for an ailing JW, and Dr. Gillespie reprimands him for violating the patient's rights and wishes.

  which world is this?_________________when the doctor pulled my screaming body out of mom all those 7 decades ago, i landed in a post-wwii world.it was--compared to today's world--an alien planet.. the world i live in today has nothing in common with the world in which i grew up.. there were no cell phones back then--there were black telephones with a dial-tone and an operator who placed your call.

  everywhere you found telephone booths!

  a call was a nickle.where did all those telephone booths go?i dunno.where did my whole world go?i dunno.. tv sets were huge boxes with tubes and small screens.

  When The Persecution Comes

  when i was young everybody used to fantasise constantly about how brave we would all need to be "when the persecution comes".

  we worried about what "they" would do to us and how we would never talk or betray other jws.

  psychologically it was a damaging environment for children; but maybe that's another topic.. who would have thought that when it finally came it would take the form of being sued for protecting pedophiles.

  I posted a thread some 9 or 10 years ago about persecution. The congregation was talking about the pounding we'd get when we handed out the newest tract, that ripping the churches and the clergy.

  House picks up "Thirteen" -- Dr. Remy Hadley -- upon her release from prison. She asks him to take her to a certain location in order to take care of a personal matter. They pull up to a house in a nice neighborhood, "Thirteen" gets out of the car, walks to the front door, and knocks. A man answers, whom she subsequently knees in the groin. He collapses to the floor; she departs nonchalantly, reenters the car.

  "I didn't know you were a Jehovah's Witness," remarks House.

  "Yeah, the weak lost faith when Christ didn't return in '75, but I still believe."

  House wants to pursue this line of inquiry further, but "Thirteen," like many a good JW, cuts in and says she's starving, and can we get going.

  exjw's of a certain age will remember randy's site well.

  freeminds was instrumental in waking me up along with ray franz's books.

  if net soup and armageddon okies mean nothing to you you're probably under 30.. whatever caused randy to post what he did recently is something i can only guess at but it won't be what i remember him for.. randy, i wish you well and thank you for all you've done over the years .

  The brother who took me out in service for the first time (1967), in San Francisco, CA, was, likewise, the first to introduce me to "The Free Minds Journal." There, I learned of Simon's website. Like many of you, I became acquainted with Armageddon Okies and Net Soup and WT News. I believe when I clicked onto the News I "saw" Simon for the very first time.

  What hit me over the head, however, were the stories of Nils and Sherry Jansma -- dear friends at Bethel -- and of Terry Walstrom. I was incredulous.

  Very importantly for me, later, when Randy and I became friends, was his support and enthusiasm for my writing, particularly my thread, "Ask Happy Homemaker!" where I waxed comedic with my experiences, and beyond, as a janitor. He even featured it on his site. I never could thank him enough for his believing in me.

  How to believe you deserve to relax

  i was brainwashed to believe you generally shouldn't relax much.. demons can enter you if you meditate or even relax your brain too much for one second.

  always be on guard.. scriptures criticizing laziness were repeated often.

  https://www.openbible.info/topics/laziness "be kind to yourself" and all that.. you need to strenuously exert yourself for jehoopla and you're worthless if you don't.. most forms of fun were extinguished.

  I rarely post here due to ongoing PC problems, but your thread is too good to pass up. Hope I make it.

  Yes, it's been hard learning to relax, to take time to fix a good meal, to stare aimlessly -- w/o guilt -- into space, to take long and meaningful naps, . . .

  When I was an elder/pioneer, paying a mortgage, and raising my children, I had every hour of the day scheduled. I may've allowed a little time to sleep . . . I only now am trying to recall how I managed. You piqued my interest and retrieved "lost" memories.

  Now, semi-retired, I have lots of free time and I schedule it enough to feel somewhat organized but certainly not like in the old JW days. I sometimes feel caught between having a life of meaning and one of spinning off helplessly into oblivion.

  Well, my tiny offering might end up posting.

  i wish i had read this back when i was 18. it's an amazing take down of religious beliefs, the bible, and religion in general.

  ) a "reason"-able manner.take this quote, from near the beginning:.

  when also i am told that a woman, called the virgin mary, said, or gave out, that she was with child without any cohabitation with a man, and that her betrothed husband, joseph, said that an angel told him so, i have a right to believe them or not: such a circumstance required a much stronger evidence than their bare word for it: but we have not even this; for neither joseph nor mary wrote any such matter themselves.
